So in 1973 after living in rentals for all my life (in 1973 that was all of 13 years for me) my folks had a great opportunity to purchase a single family home in Somerville Massachusetts. The envelope waited solemnly on the table outside the front door. Inside waited a post-mortem gift of Love from Dad.

The letter inside was expected, but the emotions that came with reading it were hard to predict. I knew there was a pending ‘wrongful death’ settlement on the way. But how would I react once receiving it? I tried hard not to think about it during day-to-day life events. After all, how could a son look forward to money that was to arrive only because his father died prematurely? You can’t experience that pendulum of emotions unless you find yourself in a similar situation.

Well the letter, with its associated check, finally arrived. With it came myriad emotions.
